Bonus video!

After I finished preparing this post, I found another excellent video with Avinash, in which he shares some very interesting insights that I thought you will appreciate as well. He shares his views on how marketing as we know it has changed completely, and how we need to evolve what we think about marketing, and particularly about influence, data and web analytics. So … here you have it.

What have you done to say “thank you” to your Fans/Clients/Partners?

John Butler is an outstanding Australian-American musician, songwriter, record label owner and producer. His band, the John Butler Trio is regarded as one of the best acts in Australia.

One of his songs, Ocean, has been a sensation for many years in YouTube. The song has been watched online over 25 million times in various formats and represents a remarkable display of skills, artistry, passion and mastery. I have watched the video of the live performance of Ocean hundreds of times (and no, I am not exaggerating). It is that good!

Recently John did something that I consider quite outstanding. As a “thank you” to his fans for all thier support thoughtout the years, he decided to record a new version of his classic song and offer it as a free download on his website. This new version, at just over 11:40 minutes is simply amazing!

Enjoy!

This is the note he published on his website:

OCEAN is a very interesting aspect of my life. It is part of my DNA. It conveys all things I can’t put into words.
Life, loss, love, spirit. As I evolve so too does ‘Ocean’. The song was first recorded as part of my first album/cassette,
“Searching For Heritage“, which I sold when I busked, then for my first self-titled studio album 12 years ago – “John Butler (1998)”.
The song has been watched online incredibly over 25 million times in various formats, nearly always live, be it from MusicMax Sessions or from one of the many festivals I have had the pleasure to play. I’d like to thank you for your continued support over all these years; it means so much to me. I would like to thank you by offering this first studio recording of ‘Ocean’ in over a decade as a free download.
I recorded it in my favourite studio, The Compound here in Fremantle Western Australia, a studio you helped me build.
This marks just another fleeting moment in a career that is very much ongoing.
I look forward to bringing you many new songs and albums into the future and continuing this amazing journey with you ALL.
THANK YOU,
John Butler

Most bands normally get out a “Greatest Hits” album and eventually add couple new songs. Others may create a “Special Edition” or a “Box Set” or some other form of package to maybe say “thank you” while still selling records. Now … there is nothing wrong with making money with your art. But if your goal is to say “thank you“, making a buck should not be part of the plan. And that’s exactly what John Butler did. He just went to the studio, recorded a beautiful version of the song his fans love and give it to them as a gift. Now … as a John Butler fan, I am happy to express my gratitude, not only for this great gift, but for sharing his talent with the world.

My question to you is:

What have you done to say “thank you” to your Fans/Clients/Partners?

Quote of the week

“Content is not king. If I sent you to a desert island and gave you the choice of taking your friends or your movies, you’d choose your friends – if you chose the movies, we’d call you a sociopath. Conversation is king. Content is just something to talk about.”

How Red Bull Stratos took us all “to infinity and beyond”

Felix Baumgartner

History was made yesterday, and the whole world came together to be part of it… online. Yesterday, Felix Baumgartner and the rest of the Red Bull Stratos team broke multiple aerospace records, while millions watched online.

According to reports, the YouTube live stream of the event was watched by over 8 million people, breaking the record of live stream with the most concurrent views ever on YouTube

The online community connected, shared and participated in ways I have never seen before. For more than two hours people all over the world got together via social networks to witness this incredible spectacle.

Here are the highlights of the mission:

So, congratulations to Felix Baumgartner and the entire Red Bull Stratos Team for pushing the limits and giving us an unforgettable experience.

P.S. As the short video shown above does not give the full perspective of what represented for Felix to jump from 39 km up and reaching a top speed of 1342km/h, or 1.24 times the speed of sound (making him the first human to travel faster than the speed of sound without being inside a craft), here is the full video of the jump.

Winds of change

For the past year I had the great opportunity of working with my good friends at Grey Group Poland. It started as a small advisory project which lead to a full year contract which recently ended.

During this period of time, the agency was awarded Advertsing Agency of the Year 2012 and continued its journey towards fully integrating digital into their strong competencies. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people at Grey Group Poland and Grey EMEA for a fantastic year and I wish them all the best of luck.

Since September 1st, I have started to work with my good friend Sebastian Hejnowski and his great team at MSLGroup, which is Publicis Groupe’s flagship strategic communications and engagement network. I will be working as Strategic Development Officer CEE, and I will be focused on the development of MSLGroup Poland to become the HUB for the entire Central and Eastern European region, coordinating the business activities for 20 markets. Additionally I will have the opportunity to work on the development of the group’s Social Media unit called MSL Social Hive Poland.

I am really looking forward to this new adventure and if you think my new role/organization could be helpful to you please let me know. Maybe we can find opportunities to work together.
